#17 = 10x10x20 = 2000
10x10 sounds horrifying.
I normally spend a few months on one finished film but making one film on each day, it sounds impossible to me. I did "cheat" a little bit, I spend most of the time on the first day planning the topics for all ten days instead of making one film according to my mood each day. My main goal in this event is to practice more on the software I am using now.
Topics of all 10 films, some of them were changed in the end... |
Very quick sketch beforehand. |
It's great that the first half of the event was in the flex-learning week, it allowed me to warm up and get used to the working mode. I spend around 14 hours on each film (included editing, output, uploading the files and posting trash talks on the Facebook group). 14 hours sounds a lot but it actually not affecting my daily routine (I don't want to go out anyway because of my infinite fear of the coronavirus even only 35 cases were found in the U.K.).
I want to make those films have some relations linking with my previous works, like the character settings or background story. This one actually happens in the same theme park of the upcoming "2 characters 1 setting" film. I might try to put the balloon or the rabbit man in that film.
Day two is referencing from my last year's final film. It can be treated as a sequel. The lotus man is not going to leave the office and that's how he spends his life there, also I am using the same painting method I use in my work before I am doing the uni, of course, the details are not enough but I believe it already made the film looks quite colorful.
The character is from one of my original characters from the portfolio I prepare for this course, but in a different hairstyle (or his younger look). The food that came up in my mind is a piece of toast or a burger but I spend most of the efforts on the motion of eating. The only problem is it's still not "animation" enough, just like a still image but has slightly moved.

Various mask of him, one of them have also used in the film on day 5. |
Day four is slightly different, I realized all my animation does not "animate" enough because they all are not moving. Perhaps the main reason is I am too lazy to repaint the image of each frame (instead of repaint to the whole image, I often only using the transformation tool to move things around.) Each move will the character's whole body starting from this film. It is not smooth but looks a little bit closer to animation.
I am having a busy day on day 5 so I did not manage to finish every single frame and my brain goes blank when there is a topic. Not really satisfied with this one and I have wasted too much time on paint hair... Both day 4 and day 5 were animated with Tvpaint and finishing with Procreate (I manage to draw finer lines with Procreate.)
The university started again, which means I have fewer hours to finish my films. The films have a relatively short length but I have made a few interesting poses ideas at the weekend. These are mainly focusing on motion.
The lines are really rough and work no efforts on the character design. I feel sorry for them:(
Get really limited time to animated, have lectures from nine to five (I still got lunch break but not enough to rush home and animating.) I fail to links them to my previous work but I love how they move.
This one has a slower tempo but spends a long time with it (almost 20 hours). It seems a little bit weird on the scale when revisiting it now. There could be improvement in both the scale and how the door falls.
The last one I have done in this event. Just a simple dance move.
All the ideas come out quite smoothly in the whole 2 weeks luckily, I can sit in front of the screen and animating. Of course, the are many improvements can be done in those films. I will describe most of them were unfinished, the lines work in the first two films just hurt my eyes. But if I can revisit the event again, having the same amount of time, I believe I can not do anything else. It's almost the limit of what I can do in the current stage. I feel the speed of animating has improved a lot, it will help in the coming animation, I still have motivation for working on it but I really need to catch up in other courses I am doing. (Glad I have already done Animation 2C last year, I cannot work on another extra long-length animation now...)
