# 64 = Animation 3C: Overall thoughts on Disseminated animation

We decided the format of the exhibition will be digitally held online at the beginning of the course, for me it is great that we do not have to concern much about renting a revenue and facing a crowd. The only early concern that none of us have experience on making a web store, were also thankfully, solved by Eden and his father, so I could move forward to the logo ideas and sketches on print quickly.

Rather than voting for decisions, I did not manage to involve in the project too much in the early stage. I have one logo idea but the design did not impressive enough, however, Sophie did have some great ideas on the logo and we all decide to use hers.

10x10x21

I did not warm up until 10x10 this year. I made some preparation for the whole 10 days on the first day, as same as last years, we have two days for fixed topics, in addition, our group decided using one day to make a bouncing ball animation that will jump across our screen. Being involved in the event for a second year, I want to challenge myself to make a short film sketch within the 7 days left, all the clips will combine and be one of the films displaying in the final exhibition. I was experimenting on camera movement almost in every film, also tried to have more variety on angles because I feel all my animation looks relatively plain. The most challenging one is the one on day 9, I underestimated the difficulty of animating the Vfx but the result still looks acceptable.

Prints

I have never drawn something that will be sold so I am quite stressed about the quality as I do not think my painting could be good enough to worth any price, secondly I have not done any proper “finished” illustration since I started doing animation. So it took some time to practice how to draw a still image well. My theme of the print was my hometown, I brought a few aspects that I remember most from there: old buildings, a tram, and the tree sparrows. Those are not the most iconic things that would represent Hong Kong but those are the most remembered in my childhood. I have done a few thumbnails to explore the composition, colour, and style I would like to stick with. The sketch was finalised around week 7 and I spend the whole week finishing it also drawing of personal working space. To be honest, I still not think they look satisfying and not really worth the price but I am quite behind the schedule for other courses so I move on.

Roles

I was the treasurer, (as I have an accountant license in Hong Kong so I could handle simple maths well) but since the web store does not live yet, I have not to account to review. Other than that, I could only help by finishing my drawings and upload them to the schedule.

Website

Everything website-related should credit to both Eden and his dad, I could not imagine how the project would be without them. We got an update twice a week and want we need to be done was stated clearly so the progress of the website, in my opinion, is the smoothest in the whole project.

Portrait and workspace drawing

The portrait is not very accurate because my hair goes and gone fast during lockdown (for some reason they grow extremely fast which is annoying because I have to do a haircut by myself again, as a result, I don’t have a consistent hairstyle.) Same as my workspace, I don’t really have a fixed spot to work, sometimes on the sofa, sometimes on the bed, and sometimes in the bathroom. In the first draft, I attempted to draw my whole apartment but I fail to make it, so same as the portrait, it was in a mess.

Advertising

Anna and Faye work really hard on doing promotion through social media Instagram and Facebook. Aspen also gave us some opinions about TikTok. We shared it with our friends and family and tried to reach out to more audience as possible.

The exhibition

Daisy and Anna took control of the show really well, and have to mention Daisy was leading the class through the semester. I did not expect the audience will ask me a question in the Q&A session but I did prepare some possible answers. I was being nervous again during answering questions again but thankfully everyone is being patient. I showed two of my 10x10 for the trailer, the Vfx one and one for “Apart”, “Apart” was another film I enjoy working on, it has a relatively slower pace than my other film and it was challenging to work with. For the final exhibition, I pick the combination of my 10x10x21 and also the film I made for two characters and one setting for last year’s final film. It was a great opportunity to receive feedback from peer and the audience (since it was done during the beginning of COVID so we did have a chance to see the film for that course during last year.), also reviewing the film after a period let me see what the film goes wrong and things I could work on in the future. Sadly my parents went to sleep at that time and my brother has no interest in the show so I cannot bring more audience to the event.
